This is awesome. Its important for people to realize that not only did Pekar have a separate identity from his comics as a jazz critic, but that he had intelligent, important, and original things to say about the music. Check out Mark C. Gridley's "Jazz Styles: History and Analysis". This is the textbook I used in 1998 for a jazz history college course. Pekar is name-checked in chapters dealing with the nature of jazz, the popularity of bop, Clifford Brown, Erroll Garner, and Cecil Taylor.

three letters, one word: wow! This clip has really whetted my appetite for the full documentary, can't wait to see it! Big fan of Harvey Pekar and jazz - and he's bound to have a weird n wonderful take on this music.
