@IshimoMaki It would have been so much better, but this is a hell of an achievement for a first time director. If this movie wasn't directed by someone other than Myazaki's son, it probably would have been better in the audience's eyes.
I do agree though, the movie would have been better if directed by his father. But honestly, you can't beat Myazaki. I don't really even think that's possible.
I have never liked anime. But I've seen 7 Myazaki movies, and glad to say I ended up LOVING all of them

It may be imperfect, but it's the best adaptation we're going to get.
And yeah, I think they should've followed the books exactly.

I would love to see this movie ^^ I am reading the books right now and they are wonderful :D I already know that it is different than the books and that Ursula Le Guin was disappointed with it but I can't help loving these movies even if they don't follow the books as much as many would want (like Howl's moving castle for example)

This movie is amazing, I must admit that every ending of a studio ghibli movie makes me depressed...... :( I STRONGLY RECOMMEND THIS MOVIE! Don't trust those "worse director" or "worse movie" nominations, you'd be an idiot if you did! I watched it at Anilinkz ^^
