The problem with such people, like engineers (especially greenhorns), may be that they attempt to compensate for a lack of practical experience in problem solving, where their knowledge is appropriately applied towards resolution of the problem, with academic thinking where the knowledge is mistakenly taken as experience itself.
Of course, the real world doesn't quite work that way.
