Simulation vs. reality: Honeybee aggregation

Side by side view of real honeybees in a rectangular prototype of the temperature arena (right) and of a simulation of a multi-agent (bottom-up) model (left). The model's parameters have been partially derived from the behaviour of real bees. Arena size is 34.3 x 18.5 cm, the thermal gradient spans from 28 °C - 36 °C (82.4 °F - 96.8 °F ) with the optimum located at the left edge of the arena. The video is 25x time lapse.
