My brother-in-law, Van 'The Body Man', took me on a tour of a race car restoration shop on Gasoline Alley. Van had his own shop on Gasoline Alley and built and restored vintage midget and dirt-tracks race cars. Van worked for Carroll Shelby as a fabricator back in the glory days of the mighty Ford GT40's and Cobras when they were winning at the 12 Hours of Sebring and the 24 Hours of Daytona and Le Mans back in the early '60's. It was always such a pleasure to sit and listen to Van opine about his racing experiences. Van passed away on March 18th 2011.
Rest in peace Sir Van. I really enjoyed the few times I got to talk to you.
