Visit facebook/suwanneesprings to find out more about the springs and how to help save it.. The Old abandoned bridge at Suwannee Springs Florida. Over the Suwannee River. Suwannee Springs was one of Florida's original tourist destinations. The spring house was probably established around the time of the civil war. People came from all around the east coast to partake of the healing spring waters. From the Civil war to the 1920's the site had 4 hotels, a bath house, and many cottages. A special spur railroad line was established just to handle the tourist to the springs. The last hotel burned in 1925. Today the spring house , two cabins, a couple out buildings still (partly) remain. visit " facebook.com/suwanneesprings

  • Friends of Suwannee springs is working on getting this bridge nominated for the National Register of Historic Places.. We have approval form the Suwannee County city commissioners and are not moving forward with the nomination!!

  • This is the old Suwannee Springs bridge. It is located off of hwy 129 between the towns of Live Oak and Jasper Florida, on the Suwannee River. It is still standing although there is some talk of it being torn down.It was for vehicle traffic on hwy 129. View my video "Memories of Suwannee Springs" to get the history. I think it was decommissioned around the early 70's. The bridge and spirings nearby are a great place to explore.

  • @crystalschwantes I too would like it to remain, however, who would it serve, benefit & pay for it's restoration? There is much need & insufficient funds to restore & maintain it all. I understand the sentimentality of keeping articles which stir memories.

I can't justify the cost to me or identify any personal benefit.

Let the local tourism bureau finance its restoration. It doesn't bring in enough to do so.

Don't ask taxpayers to pay for this. (state highway department)

  • @Cockroach2008 I do not see a restoration in the future for this piece of history. I do hear plenty of talk of the demolition of it. I personally would love to see it stay where it is...but yes that would require money and I do not see anyone coming forward to save it.

  • @crystalschwantes I haven't a dollar to give them. Nor does the government! Let the business which benefit from the people that come pay for its restoration & preservation. Another folly of the preservationists!

  • @Cockroach2008 This bridge is in Live Oak Florida-Suwannee County It is an old bridge near the Suwannee Springs. Built 1931 by the Austin Brothers Bridge Co.; bypassed by new bridge in 1971. This bridge actually brings in tourists.

  • They will not tare this bridge down it has and always will be apart of Live Oak Florida this bridge means alot to the people in Suwannee County!

  • Whats with the 1980's miami vice sounding music? Cool bridge

  • Would be a great place to trip out and explore the mind......your music makes me feel like i'm lost in miami vice from the 80's

  • Where is this? What was it ever used for? When was it built? When was it decommissioned? What is it doing now?

Very expensive infrastructure to just leave.
