In 1999, a game on the original Playstation came out and took the world by storm. Well, probably not by storm, but it was a game that most certainly kicked ass. Reflections Interactive's (now Ubisoft Reflections) "Driver: You Are the Wheelman" was a gangster-esque game that took on a 60's and 70's car chase motif. You're basically an undercover cop that is trying to take out a syndicate group and bring justice to the good ol' "US of A." The game takes place in four locations: Miami, San Francisco, Los Angeles, and New York City, however, that's not why we're here today. We are here for some car smashing, police car flying carnage!

This video is a collection of some of my wrecks I've done in the game which spans THREE memory cards (maybe two and a half, if you want to get technical). Most of these wrecks were done in the survival mode where you got to keep your car running as long as you can as you got some extremely active police cars gunning after you practically putting their cars (and assumingly themselves) at risk. Also, there is a cheat used to make these wrecks easier. If you beat the game, you will be able to access the cheat mode in the game. One particular cheat, "Stilts", is the one I use in where your car get some "hydraulics" and your car will be place a few inches from the ground somewhat supended in midair above your tires. This makes the wrecks easier as it increases the sensitivity of the hits and causes some wicked gravity-defying car flying. All the wrecks were saved via replays in which you can control the camera to better suit the action of your car chase, or in this case, your wreck. The first part contains the following replays:

-The Pres Is Dead: This was the only wreck that didn't happen in Survival mode. This was done in the last stage of the game "The President's Run." You're taking the President away for a possible assassination attempt and since you're undercover, you got not only the police on your ass, but also the Secret Service (the black limos similar to the one I'm driving). Let's just say that they were successful in catching me, but probably killed the President in the process. (Played in New York City)

-Twist and Shout: One of my "still wrecks" where I focus the camera on one point and let the magic happen from there. In Miami, if you don't time your initial move right, one of the very first cop cars can and will beat you silly. Unfortunately (or fortunately, if you know what I mean), I got caught, and my car went immediately into spindrive.

-AHHHHHH!: A wreck that took place in LA where I get trapped in a building. That's right, in a building. However, unlike the end of "The Pres Is Dead" wreck, I actually stand upright inside the building. However, the game doesn't like the cars being in the buildings, so if you get stuck in a building, you're pretty much trapped... unless you're willing to go kamikaze in the nightmare box, that is. The rest takes care of itself.

-Dark Dizzy: Gee, I wonder where that name came from? Anyway, it's another LA wreck where some of the craziest crap happens. First, I get knocked into a supposedly unplayable and unaccessible space, then I do some free riding there. That was until, the stage and the car when haywire. This is why I, and some others that I know, called that unaccessible spot and all others like it, "Hell." Then again, I guess the devil didn't like my company and, well...

That's all from the first part. There will be three more after this one, so I hope you don't suffer from motion sickness or vertigo. The wrecks are only going to get stranger, crazier, and more brutal than these, while some others may suck. Oh well, til the next time.

  • i hate how u just had to touch the foot-walk and the police is wanting u

  • @Golden2Talon I'd blame the programmers for putting such an easy to use exploit in the police AI for that since you'd think that in Survival mode, at the very least, they would be more ruthless in trying to tag me. Then again, I'm surely not above exploiting things like that.

  • I may add a driver 2 wreck collection

  • @TheTerraTitan Should be interesting to see when and if you do it.
