Don't think taking lessons early always lead to someone being a vitruoso.
First: interest and inclination. There are people who get into pop music and others into the old-fashioned stuff.
Next: a lot of support from the family. If your parents both play an instrument, there is a good chance you would get into music being in that environment.
Finally: talent. Some people watch a conductor can tell he is waving a 2, 3, or 4-beat pattern. Others just doze off in a concert...

hes only good because he has had lessons since he was like 3

A lovely and attractive musical family. Muscial abililty seems to be heriditary. Yehudi Menuhin said that when he picked students for his music school in Surrey, he always looked at the parents to see if they were musical too. Nathan is a cheerful, pleasant and engaging young man who share Yo Yo Ma's charisma and power to communicate with the audience. Best wishes for the forthcoming concert in England in April at the Barbican!!!!
