Another old RAF film: seems to be from May 1978.
http://ftvdb.bfi.org.uk/sift/title/106761
This time following 12 Squadrons participation in NATO training exercise Opengate back when they were equipped with the Blackburn Buccaneer.

The part of the enemy ship is played by HMS Kent of the Royal Navy.

I have now uploaded the original, full half-hour film for download on request.

  • @chris071883 You were warned. Your blatently bad flame baiting is not welcome here and you won't be making any more comments around my videos.

I dearly hope you are merely trying to get a rise out of people, because I despair if you are truely that arrogant, ignorant and completely clueless.

The amount of rubbish and your complete lack of knowledge on multiple occurrences of history is astounding.

    Consider yourself blocked.

    Clean up time.

  • @NielsShoe They overflew them before engaging, so they had their chance to make a positive ID. Like I said, my brother was there.

One second they were thinking "Oh good, we've got some air cover", and then the vehicle next to them exploded.

Its not the only time. Surely you've seen the video some 10 years later when A-10 pilots engage with guns, without authorisation, having misidentified the orange friendly identification panels as being 'rockets'.

Not a good subject to talk to me about.

  • Nice for 1978!

  • anymore like this? superb.

  • Wonderful music of the great Vangelis

  • I spent time in the Hebrides when I was a kid. The Buccs would skim over the waters of the Sound of Harris. Just about crapped my pants. Those guys were untouchable.

  • A true British classic.....a solid and rugged platform that runs on rails low level!

  • that tune reminds me of Buccs... being a 15 year old modern day kid theres very little in the way of such legends like Jock Frizzell and the development team of the Buccaneer, which was a true low level aircraft.... the Banana was best! They've got the flight deck mock up at Yeovilton where you can really get close to such an aircraft, I wish they had more flying, the only 'real' Buccaneer I've got is a 1/72 scale Corgi model... They're fantastic jets, and they should have kept them for Libya!!!

  • Where are your buccaneers, on the side of your bucking head.

    Sorry.... I'll get my coat!

  • Its clearly one of the first group of County destroyers built 62-3 that the dummy attack is being mounted on HMS Kent or HMS London or possibly even Devonshire. Interestingly it seems to have been updated with the later attena for the 992 target indicated radar. What amazes me is that the Buccaneer came out of the Blackburn stable of aircraft as their previous efforts like the Firebrand were very mediocre and flawed. It seems their was huge USA design effort behind the Buccaneer.

  • Love the Buc. A true Cold War workhorse.

  • @TheBlackSpider82 there is a great example on youtube called Buccaneer Takeoff, posted by a guy called 666nocturnal666. Scary stuff!
