The ZX10 shares components with all ZZR's up to the 1200 ccm. Many parts and all engines are interchangeable, without any modifications. And the ZX10 benefits from being the lightest of the ZX-ZZR range, therefore a great bike for a conversion (1200 ccm, 160 hp and a lot of torque in a old standardbike fools most friends, if they think they can beat it) or a streetfighter project. Or just leave as it is - a great bike... :-)

love this bike for what it is AND WHAT IT ISNT ... I have the 86 1000r with a 3 stage & vance n hines kit... Theres no need for me to get another bike new or not because I dont feel like working on the more complex systems and VALVE TRAINS And the prices are just not sensible for me when i can get another gpz for 1500.00 ready 2 go.... Why waste 10,000 dollars for power that you can't see in NJ anyway... LOVE THE VID and love these new old bikes, ps was that a homeade camera mount

Nice, hunny! Yep, it looked like a "quick edit": less polished than what you normally put together, but a good sense of riding on the coast nonetheless.
Looking at picking up a zx10 or maybe a 1985 gpz900. Any oppinions? ANything to watch for on the zx10? The one I'm looking at is in the $2000 range if that matters.

@fireworkstube The ZX10 benefits hugely from braided front brake lines, as the factory ones are quite soft. The charging system is prone to issues but the generator from a ZG1000 Concourse makes for better charging and easier starting. If you like power, it likes to stretch drive chains. Valve adjustments necessary, but are a lot easier than you'd think. The cam chain tensioner may need attention, too. All in all, it's a pretty tough machine and easy to tinker on

@tonedeftony Cool. I don't see as many of the zx10's as I do the gpz900's. Are there problems getting parts?

@fireworkstube I don't see Gpz's all that often either. I have gotten most of my parts from Bikebanditcom and Ebay. The first ZX10s were a three-year run and there are bits and pieces that interchange from other bikes. Since I made that video, I've made a streetfighter out of my ZX10 that turns heads everwhere I go with it.

Sweet! How big of a rear tire you have? It looks bigger than stock.

It's the stock size- Avon 160/60/18 Storm A56- inflated to 40 psi front and back- If the inflation is even a little bit off-balance, the ZX10 will fight you in the corners. I've also raised the subframe and have the rear shock dampening at 3 and barely any air pressure in the shock while on the centerstand
