The messed up thing about it, is that Flava Flav used to speak out against the same garbage he is now a part of. What a sellout traitor!!

Put me right if I'm wrong here, but it feels like gangsta rap is target-marketed to bored suburban white kids, to give them (1) safe rebellion via something their parents will hate and (2) the vicarious thrill of the fantasy of a life of 'exciting' sudden violence, 'respect', designer label consumerism and easy sex?

@TheArtistWill I'm trying to take action. Ever since I wrote a paper on how the hip hop media is responsible for exploiting stereotypes for profit I have been determined to change the way things are. Last year I started a hip hop organization in an effort to show hip hop is not as monolithic as the media would make you think. I recently just got done sending a message to a DJ at a local radio station because most of the songs and artist on there exemplifiy stereotypes.

Spike Lee knew exactly what he was talking about. Even with him shoving the facts in their face people still buy the minstrel idea without thinking.

There are also racist persons in comedy who try to feed the fire of alot of young Blacks that I know. DL Hughley for starters is one of the most racist personalities I can think of yet it is fine for him to say it because you can not be racist against whites. It is legal to degrade a white person! oh goody. there are movies like White Chicks (2004) Modern White "Face" if you will.

Very well done, the problem with rap today (notice I didn't say music) is the fact that when whites started to listen to it, they(record companies) started to change it, so it would sell. the white kids that listen in high school and college will grow up thinking thats all blacks do. FUCK RAP. 5stars

If you really want to consider blackface in contemporary society, just look at Mickey Mouse himself, without the makeup in the film poster you used. Mickey is clearly designed to be a black face comic: white gloves, big goo goo eyes, white area around his mouth. Mickey was clearly originally designed to be a standard blackfaced jazz singer.

it certainly does.
So, what you all intend to do about images like this? It's one thing to be aware of this, but it's another thing to take action.

Hopefully, I can get people like you to help take our culture back one family at a time.

No doubt hip-hop has its bad parts and needs to change. However, I think many in the black race are too concerned with what white America thinks and have given them the right to evaluate what we call relavant, leaders, music and entertainment.
The video wasnt powerful. It was typical.

Thanks for your comment. I agree with your point but, I am not sure of its relevance to the video. The artists need to take more responsibility for the images they project.

I think the white people statistic is uninformative. 70 percent buy it because 70 percent of america is white, it reflects demographics towards hip hop-- which is popular! Otherwise, the video is well made.

Thanks for your comment. The point of the statistic is that the kids that are most effected by these damaging images are not the ones making up the majority of the purchases.
