Thank you for this posting, I have the Donald Vails Album of this. And, Love IT!!! We would sing his version, love the power this song has. I am so glad to know how it originated!

i did not know this at all wow And I was at conference that year..

This arrangement is most like the one I grew up on. You've got to get someone to transfer this to MP3 for you! I cannot find this in CD form online.

@steven2312 yes, She's been dead now at least 7 or 8 years, maybe more. They just spoke of her at Dr. Douroux's birthday musical a few weeks ago.

@Wvrsandiego WAIT!!!!! Barbara Bennie Is Deceased???
-
@steven2312 This was the year Dr. Douroux taught it to the workshop, Donald heard it and took it back to Detroit, the soloist sounds like Barbara Bennie, Margaret Douroux's best friend (Deceased now). She also led the song "He prepareth a table". by Dr. Douroux.

I'm commenting on the sound. I love the repeating "He would not come down from the cross just to save himself...", and how the choir sings it higher each time, ending up shouting excitedly. I love the Donald Vails uncut version, especially the end with the three special "He would not come down from the cross just to save himself..." and how the instrument goes on "save himself" and after that and the vocal ad-libbing along with it.
