9/7/2011: RIP Pavol Demitra and Igor Korolev. Both players played in this game and were aboard the plane crash that killed the KHL's Lokomotiv Yaroslavl team. The hockey community will miss both of you as well as the other 41 People who died today.

-------------------------------------------

This is the greatest third period comeback in the history of the NHL. The blues trailed 5-0 with 15:10 remaining in he game, and came back to score 5 goals to force overtime, and would then score 17 seconds into OT. Only three times has a team come back from being behind 5 goals in the third period. Al Macinnis, who scored the Blues 3rd goal in this game, also played on the Flames in 1989 when they did the same thing, coming back from being down 5-0 in 15:44 and winning in Overtime. The other occasion was in 1982 in the playoffs between the Kings and Oilers. The kings were trailing 5-0 in the third period of a best of 5 series in which they were already down 2-0. they rallied to win the game and eventually win the series, upsetting the oilers and wayne gretzky.

Aside from the historical significance of this game, it really epitomizes everything that was good about the Blues in the Late 90's. Al Macinnis with his rocket shot, Pavol Demitra and others explosive offense, the spirit to keep fighting even when they should be down and out, and Ken Wilson with the amazing Play by Play. It's a shame this team was never able to bring the cup to St.Louis.

  • Was Demitra of Bulgarian origin? His name sounds like a Bulgarian one.

  • @BaumerPaulGefreiter Czechoslovakian

  • you said that was the best comeback ever in your decription its NOT. Check out the LA Kings miracle on manchester comeback. That is a better comeback because it is fighting for a playoff spot.

  • @MrDrob08 I know, in fact, this video is a video response to the miracle on manchester. I was just going strictly by the amount of time left in the game when the first goal was scored. there was 15:44 remaining when the Kings scored their first goal, there was only 15:10 remaining when the blues scored their first goal.

  • How did that team not win a Stanley Cup? One of the greatest Blues teams right there.

  • I decided to watch this in honor on Pavol Demitra, one of the all time Blues greats. Igor Korolev, who was also on the plane (Assistant Coach), was on the ice for the Leafs in this game. They both wore #38 for the blue note. RIP.

  • Damn I miss Ken Wilson as our announcer. I like the ones we have now (Kelly and Panger) but Wilson was just great.

  • @BaumerPaulGefreiter Slovakian.

  • Unbelievable!!

  • Still get chills when I see this

  • Hahahaha right when the Blues go on the powerplay about 1:36 into the video, the announcer goes "You don't think-do you? Could they come back from a 5-0 deficit?" If that's not "calling them as they're seen" then I dunno what is

  • @skapunkteddybear roman turek is a bum thats why
