@tonyutter I think mine locked up, and drained my battery after 2 hours. Now it won't start. I'm taking in to a shop right now. I used 409 to get some grease out and it worked for a little bit. Not a good sound.
I had the exact same problem and i didnt know where the noise was coming from and its the compressor bearings. If i were you I would (change the bearings and the clutch if your a DIY'er and know what your doing!) but i would just Buy a New Compressor before your compressor siezes or causes other problems. Hoped this helped!
I know this is an old post but, it looks as if you're clutch's magnet might be corroded. Could try taking it off and cleaning it. As far as the noise, no idea.
Yeah, that same thing happened with my 02 Ranger. Definitely need to get that compressor clutch replaced ASAP. Worst case scenario, it will lock up causing all kinds of problems.
your lucky your compressor is on top on the engine. You just need to replace the compressor clutch and hub. No more than $100. Good time to change your belt also,
the clutch is not engaging and I can't each it with a stick as you did! what can I do ?

@MrCarz09 Damn. I had a problem with mine not engaging. Turned out it was the relay that controlled the clutch. $15 part.
