Madden on the 3DO was an amazing experience when it first came out. Its graphics were out of this world. While it had some gameplay issues, it provided a preview of the future.
which was Doom. It ran at a HORRDENDUS frame rate. I don't remember it getting over like 4-5 fps, seriously. It also ran in a very small window. Had a great soundtrack though.
In that sense, I believe it was done completely in software. Since Doom was a highly optomized game written in assembly, it made me think the system could not do anything, just like the Jaguar. However, after seeing full 3d games (such as that survival horror one never relased) it makes me realize it was just a bad port.
Wow, I was just watching the Saturn version of Madden '97 and this lokos equally as good. As those sprites for players because they blend in PERFECTLY.

However, there are a lot of titles for it. I always wonder HOW this is possible? I had a 3d0 at one point, let a friend borrow it who lives a state away and never got it back. Only ever had one game, which
I fondly remember my old 3DO system, I remember seeing this game and being amazed since all I had to compare against it was the SNES counterpart! While this system was quite overpriced it is one of my most missed systems!
