@DeathtoRaiden1 And a pike even more so. A pike could be used by anyone, the hooks on the ends(assuming not a straight spear) could be used to pull a knight in armour to the ground where he could be dealt with easily. Also effective against horses.
Even the least intelligent person in the village could use one, and mastering it was easy enough. Piece of wood, spike on the top. Cheap and easy to make lots of quickly.
But hard to defend against archers, rofl. Pew Pew no defence.

I couldn't go to these things. I get so giddy when I watch. o.o I'd piss off people around me.

@mundosinveritas Mate they are not going to have a knock down drag out fight in front of a crowed of little kids and graness out for a Sunday afternoon walk round a castle.

Actually they DID use they're swords as a battering weapon. The only vulnerable part in most armors was under the arm and through the visor. The visor is near impossible to hit and under the arm you still had to go through chainmail. So you are not going to kill a full armored knight while he has the strength to defend himself with one blow. A warhammer or a mace were much more effective tools when fighting an armored opponent.

Is this a reenactment of Dark Souls? lol
Contrary to popular belief knights in full plate armor did not use a shield and longsword/broadsword. They wielded their sword with 2 hands, there was no need to use a shield because the armor gave them all the protection the needed.

@mundosinveritas Except listen to who the audience is - mainly families with children, not historical re-enactors.

I came here for a real sword fight, but i still find this entertaining!

At least the armor looks cool

Right well this is bad way too showy, and yes I know they're not trying to kill each other but there are ways to spar or fight with swords in a convincing manner in which actual technique is used. Not this fake stuff.
No this is in beautiful North Wales, in the UK. Visit the medieval walled town of Conwy with its magnificent Castle.
