With VIER40, a jubilee programme consisting of two newly premiered ballets, Introdans is celebrating its fortieth birthday in style!
Introdans has something to celebrate! The company was founded in 1971 by two pioneers with a sense of adventure and the idealistic ambition to bring fine dance to the previously neglected east of the Netherlands. Now, forty years later, Introdans is one of the Netherlands' major modern ballet companies with international allure. With VIER40, a jubilee programme consisting of two newly premiered ballets, Introdans is celebrating its fortieth birthday in style!
The first work, Noces by the Flemish choreographer Stijn Celis, was created in Canada and is now being performed by another company and in the Netherlands for the first time. Noces has already received many standing ovations all over the world. The choreography is set to "Les Noces" by Igor Stravinsky, and although the music has often been used for dance before, Celis is able to add many fine and individual aspects. His interpretation is powerful, uninhibited and highly charged: the confrontation between the men and women is realised by a large group of 24 dancers. The New York Times called Noces 'extraordinary'.
This is followed by the jubilee creation celebrAGE, a festive production by the Brazilian Gisela Rocha and the Dutchman Adriaan Luteijn, with contributions by the photographer/filmmaker Erwin Olaf and the fashion designer Sjaak Hullekes. Each of the two choreographers is making their own piece, with Rocha taking her inspiration from things like the change of seasons, while Luteijn -- with an ironic nod to the Introdans history -- is presenting an ode to the growth and development of a human being. The two then join forces for the exuberant finale.
Extra-large cast of dancers
For the performance of the ballet Noces the cast of dancers is being increased from 18 performers to 24. For several years the artistic director Roel Voorintholt has been keeping track of the top talent at the Dutch dance academies, and during a number of auditions he selected the best dancers. In this talent development project, Introdans is cooperating with the National Ballet Academy (Amsterdam) and Codarts (Rotterdam).
Live music for Noces
At thirteen performances the music of the ballet Noces will be performed live by pupils of the ArtEZ School of Music (four grand pianos, six percussionists, four solo singers and a choir of sixty in collaboration with Musica Vocale). Noces can be experienced with live music during the jubilee weekend (7, 8 and 9 October 2011 in Schouwburg Arnhem) and during the tour in the towns of Amsterdam, Apeldoorn, Doetinchem, Eindhoven, Enschede, 's-Hertogenbosch, Nijmegen, Utrecht, Zoetermeer and Zwolle. In other towns the music will be from a recording.
Return of former dancer Hilde Machtelinckx
Hilde Machtelinckx danced at Introdans from September 1986 to February 1997. She became an audience favourite with her impressive interpretation of roles in various Introdans ballets such as Death and the Maiden by Ed Wubbe and, on her departure, in Scheidslijn by Ton Wiggers. After ending her active dance career Hilde is making a one-time return to Introdans and will be forming part of the Introdans cast. Adriaan Luteijn has invited her for the creation of celebrAGE, and is thus expressing the theme of 'growth and development' in a literal way as well.

Igor Stravinsky ....wat een bezetting aan koper, vocaal, dansers, belichting wat een voorstelling ...bedankt .. Intodance dat ik dit mocht mee maken...
