Normally the RRVT is basically shut down December-March as winters around here generally bring plentiful snowfall and occasional extended periods of below zero temps, making play time difficult to justify. This winter has been exceptionally mild, with little snowfall. This week we had just the right amount of snow and warm temperatures to operate in and make some videos. Trying to operate an electric railway in the snow is a challenge all in itself, the snow packs on top of the rail when trying to run through it, which lifts the wheels to the point that the electrical connection is broken and then you are dead in the water. In this video, you will see our Line Car make an attempt at running on track that has been partially cleared by hand. I tried to capture the volt and amp meters as I was taking off, so you can see the effect of the snow on the rail and its impact on the the electrical connection. Once the car gets rolling, I was able to film a good run all the way up one of the hills, until we hit a drift on uncleared track. Enjoy the ride!
