Mercer really does a good job on this vocally but his affect is so flat. To contrast this with him in the 1940s and 1950s is to see what time & illness can do. He fought depression for years, in large part because the 1960s weren't about his kind of music and the work dried up. Yet reportedly he was working on a musical with Andre Previn, and Paul McCartney sought to work with him, when he was diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumor in 1975 and died a year later. And the angels swing....
