The Knicks had found out that Ewing would be out for the rest of the playoffs because of a torn achilles tendon. The players on the Knicks had to step up and play their best if they were going to beat the Pacers in game 3. In the frist period of this game, the Knicks battled with the Pacers in that played good defense. Larry Johnson hit a 3-pointer at the buzzer to tie the score at 17. In the second period, the Knicks led by as many as 7 points, but the pacers ended the first half on a 22-10 run to take a 47-42 lead. The Knicks did much better in the third period by playing defense, which led to their good offense; the scored 27 points and lead 69-65, but the Pacers tied it up at 69 going into the 4th period. In the final period, the Knicks were down 89-81 with just a few minutes left, but the would slowly chip away at the lead and they would only be down 91-88 with 11.9 seconds left. The Knicks had the ball and Larry Johnson faked Antonio Davis, then dribbled and took a three pointer. A. Davis fouled him and the shot went in plus one and the fans at Madison Square Garden went CRAZY. Then Johnson made the free throw to put the Knicks up 92-91 with 5.7 seconds left. On the final possession, the Knicks played suffocating defense and Mark Jackson's shot came up short and the Knicks got the rebound and they won game 3 to take a 2-1 lead in the series. That 4-point play by L. Johnson was the greatest 4-point play in NBA history. Larry Johnson started out 1 for 5, but since then, he caught fire.
