Britain's greatest wartime leader, Sir Winston Churchill, was the owner of a number of pets amongst which this blue and gold macaw is said to be one. Whether this can be proved or not is in doubt, but it seems that if nothing else this parrot may be the oldest in the country. Unless you know differently? This video was shot the day after the 65th anniversary of the ending of the War in Europe.

  • I agree, it is not the same bird as in the photo which possibly shows Sir Winston at a zoo in Florida. However, I still think that the verbal evidence is credible and that she was kept outside in the garden at Chartwell.

  • So she has stopped swearing and become a lady?

  • @leolsliu More of a Grande Dame at the age of 107

  • @plastcbrane No Blue and Gold macaws have white on their beak. The one in the picture clearly has a white upper mandible... something you don't need a color photograph to see this.

  • @nbaballa14 Agreed. The parrot in the picture with Winston is most definitely not a Blue and Gold.

  • That is not winston churchills parrot. It is clearly a scarlet or greenwing in the picture on his shoulder and this is a blue and gold. You can tell by the upper mandible on the scarlets and greenwings are a whitish ivory colour and the blue and golds are black.

  • @Thelongmanable - No one said Charlie is the bird in the picture, which he obviously is not - Charlie is a Blue and Gold Macaw, in the picture there is a Triton Cockatoo and a Scarlet Macaw.

But if Churchills parrot was known to swear, and this one does not, I'm doubtful this is the one.

Also, at the age of 107 he should have lots of health problems. The well cared-for Major Mitchell's Cockatoo in Chicago Zoo, who is confirmed born in 1933, has lots of age-related health issues.

  • @RaveKnave In my opinion its his bird. I think the stuff about sitting in on meetings and swearing about Nazi's was hype however

  • @plastcbrane Yeah they are impossible to tell apart no question

  • @Thelongmanable All blue and gold macaws have black around the eyes. Google blue and gold Macaw photos. They all basically look the same you can't tell one from the other. The photo is no evidence one way or the other

  • why he don't say "fucking nazis!"?

  • It may not be his bird, but that is a blue and gold macaw in the picture, meaning it looks EXACTLY like the bird in this video. All of those who say you can tell it isn't are full of shit, it is very hard to distinguish one bird from another up close and personal, to do so from a black and white photo would be next to impossible, unless maybe it was your bird, or had some distinguishing marks. Absurd.
