Here's a little tutorial on aligning a vintage TV. An Admiral 20A12 chassis to be specific. It uses a split IF for video/sound and a stagger tuned video IF.

This part covers a little theory, the equipment and the audio IF alignment.

  • Hi Bob! A stand for the camera is needed that will make things easier and less strain to your viewer's eyes. I loved the detailed explanations about alignment. I am already sweating as I have to align my RCA 811K Radio. I look for all kinds of excuses to postpone it. LOL!

    Thanks again.

  • @mukerjea I thought about it, but I don't know where I could put a stand that wouldn't get in the way. There are three things I was going between - the RF gen, tuning coil and VTVM. If I had 3 cameras, one trained on each device, and edited them together that would be pretty sweet.

I found a pretty detailed alignment procedure for your 811 on the oldtech website. As long as you have a good RF gen and scope or VTVM you should be fine.. Good luck.

  • Thanks for the meticulous details.

  • @ggattsr There are two more parts to go! Lots of questions have been asked online about vintage TV alignment so I figured I'd try to cover it in depth.

  • a job well done, I appreciate the details. This would be great for school kids too.

  • @UmaBlinky Fairly useless info these days though...

  • This interesting. it shows some of the thought process they went into in designing the circuit for the desired results.

  • @GrandCaravanSE Or a 3rd hand :-D

  • your life would be a lot easier if you had a small tripod.
