This is from Concert for America dated September 11, 2002, the one year anniversary. Laura Bush put together a gorgeous program of patriotic music performed by many talented musicians. The audience's reaction to this particular piece was moving. I get choked up every time I watch it.

The strange thing is this is not one of my favorite songs, nor is Ms. Fleming, of whom I have the utmost respect, one of my favorite singers. Isn't it wonderful though that when you put both together, sheer beauty is the outcome? Renee Fleming is a talented and accomplished American opera soprano with a gorgeous upper register which really shines in this arrangement. I believe that even she got choked up after she finished singing. Very touching.

  • I can't believe that this has been on youtube for almost a year and only 3700 people have view this. This has got to be the best performance of this song I have ever heard.

  • Whenver I would want a feeling of strength and hope and to be uplifted I would listen to the male tenors such as Corelli,Pavarotti,Lanza, not anymore, this women has stolen my heart. When I heard her sing this I could not believe the beauty and feeling of love and strength in her voice. We all have a secret wish,I would love to meet Renee Fleming!

  • Why does this video have 10,463 hits? This was an incredibly moving rendition of a beautiful song. Should be a classic. Does this have so few hits because the song would bring up too many painful emotions?

  • I don't think this song has ever or will ever be sung with such passion and sincerity as Renee sings it here. She projects such love, such strength and hope in this performance. She is transcendent. How remarkable.

  • Find it hard to understand why her rendition of this song at Obama's inauguration is better remembered than this one. This is her best rendition of the song and, maybe, THE best rendition of the song ever. Certainly the most moving and memorable, due to the circumstance.

  • Her Voice still touching my heart. It´s amazing, i have heard this song for more than one hundret times, but such this version touch my heart so deeply. That´s amazing.

  • the most attractive soprano in the world!

  • She's a great singer and this is a great song, but it is the circumstance that makes the song so affecting.

  • She breaks my heart every single time I watch this. How fortunate are we to have her? And to have had her speak/sing for us that night? Very fortunate indeed.

  • @drskycat, I couldn't find a DVD or CD of this particular recording (thank God for this clip). "You'll Never Walk Alone" is on Renee Fleming's CD "By Request" from 2003, available on amazon.com and elsewhere. i hunted around online and on iTunes, and this was the only recording of this song by renee fleming that i could find. no recording could ever be as beautiful or touching as this live performance in remembrance of 9/11.
