Here's a little ditty using the Elektron SFX-60 Mk II MonoMachine as a polyphonic MIDI module. We've made a basic patch with one of the FM machines and set the MonoMachine to poly mode. The Dave Smith MoPho is playing our bass line and the MachineDrum (also by Elektron) is providing the drum sounds. You can achieve interesting and bigger kick sounds (or any sound!) by layering.

Essentially you can program one pattern sequence, let's say kick 1, and have it trigger another, kick 2, at the same time. Maybe you like one kick drum sound for it's attack and another for it's low end. With this trigger function you can try out different combinations without having to reprogram the rhythm line over and over.

The MachineDrum is controlling the Mopho and the SFX-60 via MIDI.

  • how is the elektron controlling the mopho?

  • @MrBoxxed Via MIDI.

  • does the monomachine have drum sounds on it? or is it purely a synth?

  • It does come with some great premade drums sounds. You can also synthesize your own sounds;)

  • I was there just today to pick up a Monomachine. Thanks Roger for the help!

  • Hi Craig. It was great to see you again. Feel free to call Josh if you need any tips on using the MonoMachine. He loves using Elektron gear (as you can tell by the number of videos we have using Elektron!). :-)

  • @ddaynyc True they are worth the 1000 + price mark. I have not even scratched the surface of the Monomachine yet and have had it a good 18 months. I have created & saved more music than ever before and its not until you get hands on that it opens up and becomes apparent how complex but user intuitive they are. No demo can do these machines justice. They rule the digital hardware options hands down. ;)

  • THAT is one of things i cant stand... i wish i would have 1 of them.. its pretty killing me when i see a video like this.. and another guy have all of elektron products.. OMG :(

  • nice :) makes me relax these sounds :)

  • @00dom00

    Machinedrum is a drum machine

    Monomachine is a synth

After using gear for the last 12+ years, I can tell you that they just feel better, sound better and do more than any other comparable product. My machinedrum also can do melodic waveform synthesis, resampling, most anything. Honestly, nothing else compares. They are worth the money.

  • what is the difference between the monomachine and the machinedrum?

and what is it that makes the worth so much? It looks really good but what makes it worth £1000 upwards?

  • this is sick, nice work
