He was a Ferrari test driver (road cars) who had also raced cars previously. Ferrari decided to give him a chance and he had some reasonable results until this crash. I believe he went back to testing their road cars.

He slipped on oil at Blanchimont, probably from Stewart's leaking BRM H-16. Both legs were broken, and doctors contemplated amputation. He was in a coma for a week. He raced sports cars (Ferrari) in the early 70's. He died after hitting a truck in the rain, on a road in Italy.
