when i search for 50mm lenses i see all different kinds like usm, ll, AF, AF-s whats the differences. this is over whelming lol

@HeyItsJako This is a Canon lens, so in Canon jargo: AF = auto focus. USM = ultra sonic motor (quiet focus, needed if shooting video, higher quality, more expensive). f (focal length), You are right, lots to learn with DSLR. If you need a good Canon lens, choose one with USM or L-series ( L = luxury, highest quality Canon lens).

If I were to use this lens for video and use like lets say f5.6 becuase I want everything in focus, could I do that without giving up any sharpness or great features? I want to be able to focus everything in the scene, and at times have it at f1.8 for depth of field. If i cant do that with this lens what lens do you recomend I use?
ishowyouapple 2 months ago
@ishowyouapple At f1.8 with any lens you're going to get the bokeh effect. In my experience if you use an USM lens and you manually set the aperture, ISO, focus and exposure, you should be able to get the desired effects (everything in focus, bokeh effect). I highly recommend USM or L series for video because focus is faster and more importantly, quieter.

I don't think that all the photos and the videos were taken with this 50mm lens... some of them looked like zoomed
agonification 2 months ago
@agonification They were. 50mm f1.4 is a fixed lens so subjects usually look close-up.
