Islam: Between Moderation and Extremism

Countless Muslims object to the stigma that the West has of the Muslim world, contending that the Bin Ladens and the Ahmadinejads of the world do not represent genuine Muslim values. They further argue the paradox between Islam and democracy is antiquated. How then is the internal Islamic struggle between extremism and moderation being conducted? And should the West intervene in order to ensure that the moderates triumph?
