I got a tip about 7:30 this evening that there was a HUGE protest underway at the Tustin Org. Around 30 people picketing on the corner of Redhill and Irvine Blvd. -- chanting, signs, vigil-esque candles. After a moments shock (theres a protest in Tustin and no one invited me???), I hopped in my car and headed over.

Sure enough, there was a protest going on. I filmed my approach to the scene, still unsure of what was going on. All I noticed was a LOT of squealing and a LOT of horn love. I parked my car in the usual spot and walked toward the group. As I rounded the corner and got close enough to see what was on the signs, I realized it was a Scilon protest, a bunch of kids with posters bearing glittery peace signs and chanting, honk for peace! Honestly, it was kinda cute. There were several adults standing apart from the kids, watching but not interfering. The kids were mostly girls (or so it seemed from all the squealing), and they looked like they were having the time of their lives. I drew just close enough to the crowd to see that a number of people were sitting on the front steps of the Org and that some kids were running in and out of the Org doors. Once I was sure the group was comprised of Scientologists I turned around and went back to my car. This wasnt the sort of thing that called for a confrontation.

I smiled to myself knowing the horn love was probably from our seasoned local veterans assuming it was us out there raising another ruckus. Their signs were hard to read and they werent standing in the light so that it was clear what they were trying to put across. Honestly, it would not have been a stretch to think it was us out there raiding. So truthfully, I wasnt sorry those kids got a good response to their protest. I hope it helped demystify us oldies coming out and doing what we do. Protesting is fun. Kudos to the kids who gave it a great shot tonight. That was fairly awesome.

  • what the hell is a scilon

  • when was thiss??

  • Why protest for peace? Because the Scilons want the critics to stop protesting their crimes.

Sending their kids out to protest just shows how desperate they are.

  • Good job kids. Really does look like a flash raid.

  • Being pro-peace is easy in a peaceful time. Try it again when bombs are falling on your hometown.

Not to say I disapprove of the kids or the demonstration per se, just putting it in perspective.

  • I love protesting also. It brings life into my soul.
