@sawman090 oops my bad, the two front units are dash 8's

NICE catch. That last unit is an EX BN B30-7A (B) cabless unit, usta watch them climb Marias pass many years ago.

@author To me it looks like changing loads on the prime mover caused by Dash 7 traction control electronics. When the load is applyed the engine is rich caused by excessive turbo lag (GE uses large turbine housings that give poor spoolup) The unburnt fuel is highly atomized and pressureized out a hot exhaust tunnel were spontanious combustion happens, POOF FIRE!!!

ONLY YOU CAN PREVENT FOREST FIRES LOL

Man! Thats one problem with GE's!

YO! dat be da VTEC kickin' in ..

stack fire. You can get the same thing in a truck stack if there's too much oil blowing past the rings.
Anybody here know what those periodic flames mean during the early part of the video? (Kind of scary.)

There can be many causes. Turbocharger failure, poor injectors. All this is raw fuel that has not completly burnt in the cylinders, then will be sent into the exhaust at a very high temp and when it exits the stack, fresh air with oxygen in it will cause the fuel to ingite. It is quite the the event to see! Almost like a top-fuel dragster!
