I. Allegro
piano: Anatol Ugorski
Chicago Symphony Orchestra
conducted by: Pierre Boulez

Scriabin finished his piano concerto when 24 years old. The concerto is full with elegance and brilliance. We enter the magical world of Scriabin's psyche! It is said that Scriabin's earlier works remind of Chopin, yet there's no question Scriabin's "style" is a very personal one with his own message, his own flavors and colours; - just like Mozart writing in a style that reminds of Haydn and even Pergolesi, he had his own "style" and every note was "new"!

  • This concerto stands up easily against the great Romantic piano concertos - this should be on equal billing with Grieg, Schumann, Rachmaninoff etc.

Much like Haydn, Scriabin is oddly ignored!

  • @AdamGillett I absolutely agree!

  • I can't get the picture...

  • @newFranzFerencLiszt What picture?

  • @Starwalker6978 The pictures are kitschy.

  • @lyricaltones Then don't watch them. I like them not as great paintings, but as nice fantasies on extraterrestrial worlds.

  • I've never been this addicted to a piece of music as I am to this concerto. I'm 73 years old and have just discovered Scriabin's music. If not for You Tube, I might never have discovered it. Thank God I didn't miss such beauty! Thanks Starwalker. Hearing this concerto for the first time was a priceless gift.

  • Happy 140th birthday Scriabin! And thank you for all the beautifull music.

  • The pictures are like Star War's background, and the music is as mysterious as Star War, I LOVE IT, J'ADORE!!!!

  • @phoxee Thank science then, god didn't invent the internet nor youtube :)

  • è fantastico

    puoi sognare all'infinito

  • @pianofreakpr I have this CD, the recording is on a low volume indeed =) i play it in my car at max volume :P

  • I still cant believe i heard Anatol Ugorski himself playing this concert live!

  • Y u no turn up volume!!

  • That's beautiful and the pictures as well!

  • @AdamGillett This should be performed more often, but because of the complex rhythmic interplay between the soloist and orchestra, it requires more than superficial rehearsals. So it's hard to pull off

  • @AdamGillett You mean the Schumann A minor... or the Chopin E minor, perhaps? In which case, neither the Schumann nor the Chopin are easier than they sound. The Romantic period was definitely not the period where piano music was written to sound harder than it was - just listen to Liszt's first concerto or either of the Brahms... they are as difficult as they sound, perhaps even more so. All of these great concerti have their own unavoidable difficulties; no matter who is performing them.
