June 8, 2008: NS SD40-2's 3373 and 3338 "Conrail Quality" head NS D9-40CW 9720 and NS D8-40CW 8433 lead a monster size train, with NS SD40-2's 3346 and 3340 on the rear, up the 1.15% grade at Carney's Crossing. Good Leslie RS-3L horn plus Notch 8 action! Once you get the 645 at full in your head you cannot get it out! The detector can be heard at MP 253.1, and a helper set, NS SD40-2's 3344 and 3372 head downhill right after 18G passes, adding some more good Leslie RS-3L!

  • I bet you could 'FEEL' the power in the ground when the engines went by at that throttle setting huh? Great video Eric! 5*****! Like the 2 lead units also, good to see the SD40-2's leading the trash 9's!

  • You don't just feel it in the ground, you feel it going right through you, it's great!

  • Very cool! Where exactly is this crossing? Is it west (railroad direction, of course) of horseshoe but still east of the Gallitzin Tunnels? I got my first blast of Notch-8 at CP SLOPE just west of ALTO the weekend of railfest. Although I never saw helpers up front, just on the back.

  • At MP 253.2 placing it between Cresson and Lilly on the west slope.

  • Been waiting for a new batch of videos from ya. Great work as usual!

  • Thanks! I got a new hard drive so I could fit them all, now I'll be uploading as usual.

  • @o00o00ozy no that's called diarrhea

  • Sweet catch! Wonderful sound the SD40-2s have. :)

  • Great video, truly a long long train. Noticed a lot of Canadian cars. Loved the run downhill of the pusher diesels. Lots of SD40s out our way.

  • wonder why 3373 don't have it's lights on.thought the leading end of the movement had to have them on and set to bright.

  • Just imagine this scene at the very end of the independent PRR....SD40's, SD45's, U30C's, and big Alco Centurys rolling through here.

  • 8433 (2nd GE on the headend) is an ex Conrail unit....nose mounted numberboards give it away

  • alotta canadian freight cars on that train

  • The 645 prime movers make hella noise!

  • Holy crap that was a long train! When you need dependable power you can count on...who ya gonna call...EMD cause they last and last and last....lol....Totally 5***** video!
