Just wondering how much of that is fact & how much is gossip?
I'm certainly not belittling you or your point, it's just an issue I've long wondered about, & this is the first possible reason I've come across.

This theme tune alone is enough to get the hairs on the back on my neck standing.
But, regardless of their rows (both the actors & the constantly squabbling characters they portrayed), they represented a peak of Brit com. It wasn't just laughs, it was also serious social commentary, & done in a loveable way.

Shame they fell out,the reasons why are still a little vauge, lets hope they don't use different actors for it again like the piss poor ant and dec episode.

James Bolam has been very protective for many years. I don't see him changing his mind after so long.

Both brilliant & a programme that has its place in time. Bewes & Bolam played the perfect parts for our toon...

Rodney Bewes is underrated.. he's brilliantly articulate and a great actor.

@noel0blake fyi he's from sunderland, i personally don't like to indulge in such name calling but that would make him a mackhem lol

@sarahdavies22 It's too late to bring it back. At least Bolam has a career, unlike Bewes.

My dad met James Bowlam in a pub today in Chichester and had a drink with him.

An unfunny, dated series.
I think it is so sad that because of one mistake (mentioning James Bowlam's children's names on TV), James Bowlam will not speak to Rodney Bewes or film the one last episode (I believe set in a retirement home) that has been written. I sadly have learned that life is really too short for such arguments to last after small mistakes and hope that Mr Bowlam reads this and reconsiders. The whole nation would love to see that one last episode, but not with any other actor...

Thanks. It is also sad that people only realise this when it is too late. I realised wish that Mr Bowlam would reconsider...
