EMI have just released a DVD of King's College Choir performing Handel's Messiah. You can buy both the DVD and CD from the The Shop at King's, King's Parade, Cambridge or online from the Friends of King's website - www.kingsfriends.org or on the EMI website: www.emiclassics.com/dvds.php

The Messiah DVD captures an extraordinary performance in the magnificent setting of the College Chapel. The performance was recorded during this year's Easter at Kings festival and was screened in over 85 cinemas across Europe and North America. It was the first time a choral concert had been broadcast live throughout cinemas.

The critically-acclaimed concert features the Academy of Ancient Music conducted by Stephen Cleobury together with with soloists Ailish Tynan, Alice Coote, Allan Clayton and Matthew Rose, and the King's College Choir. The concert commemorated both the 250th anniversary of the death of George Frideric Handel and the 800th anniversary of the University of Cambridge.

  • Anyone with a sensitivy and a sense of beauty will always feel the grandeur of this immortal piece of Handel. By the way it is not necessary to belong to any religion not even to believe in God to be able to enjoy it to its fullest

  • Very beautifully done! Reverent and powerful! Thanks so much!

  • I have said before: the best and greatest master pieces in arts (music, painting, literature and whatever you may think) have been dedicated to God and his creation. The Handel's Messiah is the most beautiful piece of music that has ever been written and performed in mankind history. It's thrilling specally when it's performed by a fantastic Choir such as King's College's. Beautiful!!!

  • Hallelujah! Jesus shall reign for ever and ever! 哈利路亞!

  • This ones unique for an SATB arrangement.. because.. it all the voices are of males. :)

  • Spent many happy years in this great city as a student. I was very lucky to be part of its spirit and culture

  • @bambi3681 Interesting, Bambi because I used to play flute and all wind instruments have that situation as you said.

  • @mhoracsek It is hard to put into words how wonderful God is but Handel and hymn writers did it so well. Praise The Lord! So beautiful.

  • @cltinman1 They are valveless trumpets ,originals or copies of the type that Handel would have used. Also wooden sticks are used by the kettle drums .

  • @ocnoreen I highly agree!
