Christchurch - Mayhem on Deans Ave - 25th June 2010

Coinciding with the final weekend before what the media has dubbed the 'anti-cruising legislation' came into force, the Christchurch "boyracer scene" turned out en masse to cruise the Aves. We were one of the first half dozen cars to park up on Deans Ave so were in a great position to capture what happened.

With a complete lack of law enforcement what began as harmless laps quickly escalated into a scene of social disorder. For some reason the Police sent in a single car (just so happened to drive into the chaos right by the point TV3 had set up at) which in typical Chch fashion had a bottle thrown at it. Immediately the Police launched a calculated ambush involving 20 patrol cars, vans and many more officers. We had been listening in on a scanner following their plans for the ambush, however due to the traffic and the crowd it was wasn't possible anyway to get out early.

The night very much mirrored the incident that occurred several years ago on Harper Ave, and it's good to see that the various laws regarding "boyracers" that have been brought in since that time have solved the problem. Hail to a new age of a new law.

Always the ferals will ruin everything. If a person pays is licenced, pays their registration, has a warranted car, then.... they have paid for the right to use the roadway. Typical draconian idiot councils and leaders who pass laws that affect everyone, when the problems are only caused by a few. What a shame the council/Police are unwilling to see any other views, instead of remaining in the 1930's.
