I bought copper tape to repel slugs from my raised bed vegetable patch. Here's a slug trying it on for size -- not the dramatic response I was expecting -- I was hoping it would curl up and drop off on contact. But, hey, he did crawl away. Posted on my blog, theroot.wordpress.com
I have seen that for myself. There is a real copper solution that uses thin wires which works because it gets in the way of the slug's feelers. I did a little video clip of it that's on YouTube. They're called slug shields.

The snail/slug is suppose to touch the copper and ground at the same time which is what makes the electricity flow. e.g. when the slug slims his way along the ground and then goes to cross anything copper, as soon as he touches the the copper, he gets a shock. Kinda like we do with static electricity. You need the positive and negative to touch each other.

Here in the Pacific NW the slugs are so numerous that simply going at them with scissors isn't a practical way to rid the garden of them.

just chop them in half with a scissors, it's a bit gross at first but the birds will eat them in no time and it is enviromentally kind,

I think it might attract them so you can then kill them?
