I don't think it would have made any difference what Carberry had done; Harchibald didn't find anything even when Carberry did go for him, and Hardy Eustace was a tough horse to get past up the Cheltenham hill.
I would argue against the others calling Paul Carberry a 'useless c*nt' but everything I could possibly say has been said bellow, Harchi was a very tough ride.
Lads, read Paul's book, as a previous poster said, the race in Punchestown later that season proved Paul did the right thing in Cheltenham, the horse never did a tap from the front and if anything he should have waited a few strides longer before going for him. Harchi must surely go down as one of the best horses never to win a Champion.
carberry done nothing wrong if u dont believe it then watch the punchestown race bout 2 months later when meade told carberry to kick him on at the last harchibald got there cantering at the 2nd last carberry kicked him on going to the last and he got headed on the run in it was just the way the horse was i dont think you can blame carberry here !
Carberry rode harchibald well, harchibald had to be held up right until the line cos as soon as he hit the front he would stop. Carberrys a class jockey, just slightly miss judged this one.
Hardy Eustace was a great Cheltenham specialist, but if anyone else other than that useless cunt Carberry had been on Harchibald then he would have denied him that 2nd Champion Hurdle. It still makes me laugh watching it, he doesnt even press the button after the last, he waits until the final 50 yards, what a total useless cunt Carberry is
shocker from paul carberry.... would have looked special if harchibald had won, think he must have thought he could do it on the bridle, but the hardy boy was just too tough
