Quick video on how to upgrade the HDD on the slate. I was going to include how to close the case, but it was such a struggle for me to close it. I think the video was at 5 mins with three and a half of those mins showing me struggling. Once I turned the camera off, I managed to pop it in within a few seconds; just my luck. Anyways, if enough people ask, I'll throw up a video of me closing the case later on.

  • @Malfunkshen since you put in the 80gb harddrive in the ASUS Eee Slate how has it run ?

  • @jdeaner7 It runs about the same but with more space. I haven't noticed much of an improvement, but then again, I just program on it, and it runs very smoothly

  • Geting the 80Gb SSD was it ease find one ? like if i went too best buy or Future Shop would they have it ?

  • @jdeaner7 It was always out of stock. I bought it from newegg.ca. Do a search for SSDMAEMC080G2C1.

  • How did you get all the stuff from the Harddrive that Asus Slate came with ?

  • @jdeaner7 You can do a backup of all your stuff. For me, I didn't have anything important, so I just used the restore CD. First replace the drive, then use an external CD rom to boot off (Does this automatically once the CD is plugged in), then follow instructions.

  • To anyone else that attempts this hard drive upgrade: save yourself a LOT of trouble and make sure that your replacement mSATA drive has NO PARTITION on it. In other words, delete the partition that may be preloaded on the mSATA drive before installing.

You know how the EEE Slate will automatically boot to whatever USB device you have connected? Well, when the mSATA drive is partitioned but not bootable, you can't do anything. Can't enter BIOS, can't boot to USB - nothing.

  • I am considering upgrading to "Crucial 128 GB m4 2.5-Inch Solid State Drive SATA 6Gb/s CT128M4SSD2." Is it compatible with the Asus Slate? Also, how do I transfer the operating system from my old drive to the new one? Thanks for the great video!

  • @Methadras What ssd did you get? I'm about to get my slate and I know that I'm going to need a larger storage. Any that you recommend?

  • I believe the OEM drive is a 32GB SanDisk MiniPCIe --- SATAII SSD. Where can one find OEM Acer replacement parts? Please contact me if you can sell me a new SanDisk PCIe SSD!! What happened to that one? ;-)

  • Why is your solid state drive so small. It looks like your installing ram not an Ssd.

  • Is it possible to change out the battery as well?

  • Thank you for your movie, you let me dare to maintain my own EP121

  • I haven't tried it yet, but the OCZ Nocti 120 GB seems like a better upgrade than the Intel 80 GB. OCZ's part number is NOC-MSATA-120G. What other 120-128+ GB options are people considering?

  • Is it possible to remove the battery? My slate wont power on anymore nor charge (charge light doesnt luminate) and I read with other computer that a possible fix is to remove the battery and power plug, hold the power button for 45 seconds, then put back the battery and plug and it should work. Im sick to my stomach now thinking my slate is now a 1100 dollar frisbee.

  • For those that of you that are asking about larger ssd capacities, you can get a 120gb or a 128gb ssd drives to put into the ep121. I've done it and they both work great. If larger ssd capacities come out in the mSata form factor, i will definitely go get them.
