The Hope Family's Victory Garden 2009 ~ Episode 2

Episode 2.... In this episode, we fill up our raised bed with some nice compost dirt and plant our seeds! It was a lot of hard work, but definately worth it!

how about the grass below? will it not grow throu? yeees it does.. it does.. so we have to cover it,. dont we? :)

Actually, we never had any grass grow through all year, thankfully!

thats good :) just saying that usualy they have isolation,.. I dont recomend plastic,.. but some kind of isolation is needed,.. in long time it will show :) like grass coming from in between briks :) seen that right? :)

Yes, I know what you mean. If the dirt wasn't so thick, it probably would have grown through! :)

I've been weeding and tilling the garden the last few days, and dug down below the ground layer. I found a few pieces of dead grass, but that's all... Hopefully it doesn't try to grow up between the board and the inside of the raised bed!

Where did you buy such nice rich dirt? You obviously had a truck load delivered. Your colored-coded gardening plan is top-notch. Where was that printed? Best of luck to you.

I noticed you just put the soil mix right on top of the grass. has it been your experience that the grass decomposes underneath with out growing out of the bed? Where did you get the dirt?
