In character, Eugene told the cameras, "I don't think the judges are big fans of poetry but I feel I have the character and the charisma to win them around".

And win them around he did - gaining grins aplenty from the judges and a standing ovation from the impressed crowd.

Simon told him, "It was the first time anyone like you has ever had a standing ovation so that was pretty remarkable".

With three 'yes' votes Eugene went though to the next round - leaving Adam delighted that his daring showbiz plan had worked.
