OK, I get it. Some people hate the movie, and some love it. Think it's all about "Smurfs in Space" though? I don't! I talk a about the science and religion themes in James Cameron's epic movie "Avatar", which is about to be re-released. Guess who has a green screen? Yeah, now I'm REALLY dangerous! Yikes.

The video clips are from the trailer and a preview clip that was released before the movie even came out. These are under fair use.

  • 2:44 in, this guy proves he has no idea what he's talking about. "Most religion's say humans are special?" completely false. All Dharmic and Taoic religions state plainly that humans are no better than animals, & every animistic indigenous religion I've studied states that man is just one more spiritual animal in a world filled with them.

Only the Abrahamic religions state that man is outside of his natural world.

    EPIC FAIL

  • @mysticresistence The religions that you reference have a fraction of the followers of the Abrahamic religions, so you are probably technically correct, but definitely missing the point. As for myth, I never said myth was useless. Myth is the essence of fiction, and it can teach without being literally true. I DO get that.

  • I think you were digging a little too deep there. ;P Very interesting points, but I highly doubt Cameron ever meant for any of those. c:

  • @Schyntful Well, I try to look at the bright side. Hehheh.

  • Oh man, I really wish I had gone to see it in theaters now, lol.

  • @TeslasRadio They're re-releasing it in theaters soon I believe, so it may not be too late!

  • @DavidofChrist777 "through men by the power of god" is my attitude and the bible's

  • @deathman1021 the irish and natives had different views on life the natives easily couldve killed off the settlers when they landed no question. but that is not what they thought was right, they didn't see killing as the Europeans did. btw i don't really see how ireland is still fighting. and i guess the trail of tears wasn't a big deal. and the native population being decimated by small pox wasn't a big deal either neither was scalping children and raping mothers.

  • Who the fuck is this Smurf loving fagtard?!

  • @Zaunstar

If you think Avatar was at all original please watch fern gully.

Or watch Readlettermedia's review it's just so awesome.

  • All i know about this film is a bunch of natives got pissd off at cameron becuase he said something that compared their struggle to his movie.

Something i know as fact if the natives had not given up they wouldnt be as down as they are now, for an example look at the irish, opresed more violently and much longer than the native north americans, and yet still fighting.

For clarification on the more violently look up oliver cromwell, the natives never had to deal with people impaling their kids

  • @Zaunstar Abrahamic Religions make up 53% of all religious people on Earth, making none Abrahamic religions the other 47%...47% can hardly be called "a fraction"

Myth & fiction are different, but related terms. Myth is a truth about a people or humanity as a whole told through metaphor, while fiction is yarn that may or may not have any purpose other than to entertain. Some works of fiction, like Star Wars, could be considered modern Myths, but most aren't.

  • 3:37 in is the biggest oxymoron I've ever encountered. "rational AND objective eye?" Rationalism is a philosophical school of thought, like Existentialism, & to look at something through that philosophical lens is to not look at it objectively. That's like looking at something "Biblically & objectively" makes no sense.

Also, having & living by a Mythology has ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to do with lack of understanding the natural world, as Joseph Campbell proved. We need Myth, always have, always will

  • @DavidofChrist777 Much appreciated. I'm glad you're the sort of "I'll keep it to myself" Christian because they have the politeness not to foist their beliefs on those who don't share them. I wish you weren't a Christian but hey, it's your choice. I'd sit down and have dinner with you despite our differences.
