Any idea on why they were bowling on two non-adjoining lanes?

I believe a couple of the lanes were malfunctioning.

@dcbandnerd Well, ABC could have stood for "America's Bowling Channel" when ten-pin bowling was big on TV back then.

I Collect Amf bowling pins, Its 1974 those were Amflite pins. Notice the red neck markings are lower than most modern pins.

Are they bowling with AMF Qubica pins or AMF Lite? Thoes pins sound exactly like the pins at the center i bowl at! : ) My bowling center uses AMF Qubica pins.

I think that is the story. You'll also notice that the right hand lane doesn't have an ABC logo.
