Have you got 30 Seconds of Fortune in you? Want to make a video to be exhibited in a gallery for White Night Brighton and Hove 2009?
30 Seconds of Fortune is an open submission video competition, which will result in 30 videos being selected for exhibition at Lighthouse in Brighton as part of the White Night celebrations between 6pm and 2am on the 24 October 2009. (see below for description of White Night*)
Videos should respond to the theme of this year's White Night, which is 'Fortune'. The word Fortune can be interpreted / read as a very broad theme, from the very obvious (e.g. riches, lottery-winning, friends) to abstract / not obvious images and sounds that give a sense of fortune. Its very much up to you to decide how you want to make your video (on your phone, video/digital camera, with friends, making sets, costumes, etc) and what content your video has. Videos dont have to have a story, but were happy to get ones that do.
Videos that best respond to the theme of Fortune and that are considered to be the most original will be shown in Lighthouses gallery space on a projection screen throughout White Night repeatedly. Videos will also be linked to the 30 Seconds of Fortune playlist on our YouTube channel, and will be available to watch on our YouTube channel after White Night has finished. A special playlist of the 30 selected videos will be viewable through Lighthouses website.
How to take part and submit your video
To take part you will need to be able to upload videos to YouTube. Tag your video with the tag: lighthouse30seconds so we can search for and find them. Well add videos to our channels 30 Seconds of Fortune playlist and link this to the competition page on our website, with 30 being selected for exhibition on White Night in the gallery.
Rules
Videos will be selected from submissions to YouTube. Deadline for submissions is 06 October 2009. Maximum of three video submissions per person / group.
Videos will need to be MPEG-4 to be played in the gallery - so save your video in this format, click here for more information about formatting your video.
Anyone is invited to create and submit a video to the project. Videos must be no longer than 30 seconds and MUST be original (meaning that it must have been made by you, a group or your organisation). Video taken from television, film or internet that has been made by another filmmaker / artist / company will not be eligible / shown.
Videos should not be offensive (contain swearing / bad language, violence, sexual references or nudity). Any videos that are offensive will not be eligible and will not be posted to the playlist or considered for the exhibition on White Night.
By submitting your video to this competition you agree to your video being used for marketing purposes. If we do use your video / images from your video for marketing, we ensure that we will credit you for the use of images and videos, and will make sure youre aware of them being used.

*White Night is an annual celebration in Brighton and Hove of art and culture that goes on throughout the night of 24 October, marking the end of British Summer Time. Its an opportunity to do something different in the middle of the night.
