If you want a background, we believe it was do to mosquito bites my husband received while we were in Belize(zip-line and cave tubing excursion)! Soon after we got home, my husband started noticing bumps on the back of his head. The bumps kept growing and hurting. He said that it felt like someone was stabbing the back of his head (it was really the larvae eating his tissue)! About 3 weeks ago, little holes appeared in the middle of these bumps and they started oozing and bleeding (they were breathing and excreting)! We went to my husband's parent's house Christmas night and everybody tried to start figuring out what it was. By Saturday, they forced him to go to a local walk-in clinic. The doctor there told him that they didn't look infected, but that he had 2 cysts and would need to have them surgically removed!!! WOW!! We weren't expecting that! He went about his way and by Tuesday, made an appointment to visit our local doctor. The doctor squeezed it a little and told him that it looked infected and immediately put him on antibiotics! He took the antibiotics, but was not feeling much of a change in the infected area (although his sore throat went away)! Finally, on Thursday, his brother(visiting from NC) went out to lunch with an old friend of his and they started trying to figure out what it was. The name "botfly" came up and when his brother got home, he looked up some information on it. The symptoms were exactly like what my husband had! So, last night around 8 PM (New Years Day), they put vaseline on the two sites to see if the larvae would come up for air. Sure enough, they did!!! We were all amazed (to say the least)! After a couple of hours of trying different things to suffocate the little things, his brother finally decided to see if he could squeeze them out! He started squeezing and up the first one came! My husband's sister held the flashlight and his brother's wife, pulled it out with tweezers! The first one was a short fat little thing! It was hard to believe that it was in his head! For the second extraction, we had a camera rolling for it! AMAZING!!! Needless to say, my husband was in A LOT of pain with the squeezing and birthing of these two things, but once they were out, there was immediate relief!! The back of his head is almost normal! The holes have scabbed over and there has been no pain or leakage! Last night was the first full night of sleep he has gotten in about 3 weeks! Again, thank you God!!! What an amazing incident! IF we do go on another Cruise, we will be sure we use a lot of bug spray!!! :-)
Could he feel them growing and moving in his head?

how did you know there werent maybe more of them in there?

@MissQuietGirl They had made breathing holes on the outside of his head. We were worried there were more too! However, it's been 2 years now and no more botflies!

I think my horse has one of these in his back. Do you have to wait to take them out until they mature or can you do it when they are still small?

@zmuleskinner From what we have read, they eventually come out on their own.
