This was made at a time when the Kellogg's people were in a pool of legal hot water over the idea that the cereal could give kids strength to take on an otherwise invincible bully. Hence "a bowl a day keeps the bullies away" becomes "a bowl a day gives you energy to play".
There was another song that the apple man sang. It was just like the one here but instead of "gives you energy to play" he sang "keeps the bullys away" Thanks for posting.
I do remember when they said..."a bowl a day keeps the bullies away". Kelloggs had to do some fast shuffling on that one.

You mean it was originally brown and not pink? So how does that make it any different from Cheerios?

This song is so corny :) but it's a classic nonetheless.

I've eaten this cereal my whole life and I've never tasted apple, only cinnamon.

Also the notion that the cereal would never be sold to a bully. What law is there that could legally enforce that?
