Knee-jerk anti-Americanism never ceases to amaze me. It always comes in the form of first accusing Americans of how arrogant we are, followed by bragging and bloviating about how much their country is better, followed by a condescending dismissal of American culture and life. The definition of "irony" is forever lost on these people.

People around the world seem to focus on the American fringe, the ignorant and under educated. These people go on to think that most Americans are like this - somehow we are all grouped together as these xenophobic, war mongers. I could go on and list all the good things Americans have done over the past 235 years, but this would be stupid and would prove nothing. The fact that they generalize and group most of us shows their own ignorance and stupidity NOT ours.

I think it's funny how everyone from different countries thinks we're all stupid. Yet, they try to tell me how bad I am at geography and know nothing about the world. If they are supposedly smarter and not racist (like they say Americans are), than they would be open-minded. How can you call yourself intelligent after stereotyping a group of people, calling them all dumb and fat, just because they're from America?

@dalebsorry The 'they stole our women' reference is about WW2 and it stands today, there was a jovial complaint about American military personnel at the time being 'over paid, over sexed and over here'. Unfortunately its still true lol. What's wrong with us bragging? We actually have stuff to brag about.. If you knew and understood Australian humour you would know that we know perfectly well what irony is, as our humour stems from the best of british humour.

Im anti-Americanism. Im also anti-Autralianism. No fucking country is worth the unadulterated near religious belly-aching the people from them spew out so constantly. Society themselves arent intelligent. American society however is by far the most obnoxious, so its not surprising or even unfounded that people will resent them. Judge people individually, but not all prejudices are unfounded. But you shouldnt be an arsehole, going by things you hear. Realize they exist, and move on.

sweeping generalizations and hatred, unfortunately, are a part of the human experience. i agree, let's tone down the arrogance and try to learn a little bit about our neighbors on planet earth. who knows, it just might help make the world a better place to live. judge me for what i do...not for where i'm from. anybody who hates you simply because of the country you're from probably is a bigot and shouldn't be taken to heart what they say or believe.

Americans and Australians share a very similar culture and historical experience. Australia exists because the Brits lost the American colonies. Australia had practically the same frontier culture that America had, for better or worse. Don't forget the British turned their back on the Aussies in WW2 just as they had done at Gallipoli, and Americans were quick to form an alliance.

I'm an American who has lived in other English-speaking countries, including Australia. While I would be the first to agree with the majority of issues and dislikes that people have of the US regarding our government and pop culture, I refuse to believe that the whole world hates America, why? Well, among other things, people keep immigrating here, even after 8 years of Bush. Indians, Italians, Koreans, Ukrainians, Ugandans, etc. The world RESENTS America, which is different.
