What is the yellow flowered plant that attracts the beneficial insects?
-
@pumkinvine yeah like in somalia where they're too lazy to get a job

I agree hunger could be reduced by people growing their own food. But the people need to get out of cities and into the country to really fix the problem.

It`s great to have neighbors who are interested in gardening as well because they can share their produce.

Oh I wish I knew you were in portland, our square foot garden is very close to the OFB and we are dealing with a couple of problems with our garden... aphids, ants, some problems with the leaves on our tomatoes and beans, we could have tried to find time to meet with you and pick your brain.
The OFB is a great example of people working together to help fight hunger, thank you for highlighting them. Happy gardening!
I did this in our area and 25 families joined and really were successful. Our local food bank got 20% and the families still had more than they could eat. We all so taught how to cook and use all veggies. That was very important. It has been going now for 2 years and I am proud.

This garden overview reminds me of hitching a ride with two homeless guys up Hwy 1 from Santa Cruz in 1991 or so. They were passing a 40 oz back and forth ("no thanks") and talking about their community garden. I think they were going up to San Gregorio to get some free visquine for the garden.
In the middle of the conversation, one of them turns around to me and says, "Grow green things up out of the ground... and eat them!" I took that to heart. How can you argue with that?
