Did Brittany Murphy have HCM?

January 21, 2010 the Today Show interviewed the husband and mother of Brittnay Murphy, actress, who died suddenly a month ago at the age of 32. While the autopsy is still pending and cause of death still unclear. Her mother and husband said today that she had been diagnosed with a heart murmur in her early teens and later diagnosed with mitral valve proplase. We know based on research done at the HCMA that these are two of the most common 'misdiagnosis' those with HCM face. Did Brittany Murphy have HCM, we do not know.... but it would not be out of the question to consider this diagnosis. HCM is the leading cause of sudden cardiac arrest in the young... and NOT just athletes.

R.I.P. BRITNEY MURPHY. My deepest condolences to her Mother and late husband. I've never heard of HCM. Thank you Lisa for this information.  It sheds new light on Murphy's young death.
