There are a lot of lies in the books, including the ones that are by friends with no reason to lie. This has somethinhg to do with the reason he went to Witness Protection. Do not expect it to make sense. Jim was an intelligent, sensitive, sweet, even somewhat decent young man, although some things he did were really not so good. But I expect that he is still much the same about some of those things, and I hope so, and perhaps wiser and still learning.

TheGreatStonedOne: we live in dangerous times, don't we? Jim had Jewish friends, including Robby. I doubt that Jim's father was fighting Israel. As for his death, Jim went into witness protection, against his will, but it did keep him out of prison, where he would likely have died. To have faked his own death...h
