This is not accurate. I THOUGHT it was a cycle when i made this video, but in actuality it was a phosphate bloom. i actually had no cycle with this tank.

most tanks will go through the "ugly" phase, but this tank didn't because i knew that adding good rock to good water would prevent die off from any of the live rock bacteria.

see my 29 process step 5 video if you want to know more on skipping the cycle

  • Am I the only one who thinks you done it wrong. When you add that live rock you will get a lot of die back wich in most cases cause a another ammonia spike. So you should cycle tank with live rock from the start.

  • @walsallcrew yeah that's wrong. when you have the right water parameters BEFORE you put the live rock in, there will be minimal die back from the rocks. so you won't have an ammonia spike, nitrite spike, or a nitrate spike. if you put good rock in shitty water, you're going to get an ammonia spike. if you put good rock in good water, nothing dies and there's no spike. see how that works? its called skipping the cycle

  • how big is your tank?

  • @red0071984 10 gallons

  • @TizocProductions ADD THE FISH AFTER THE AMMONIA SPIKE IS DONE AND RETURNS TO 0. ammonia is toxic to fish, so test the ammonia levels before you add fish.

  • @TizocProductions i totally forgot about the heater! add that with the water and filter. as for the protein skimmer, the earlier you can put it on the system the better. when i cycled it went something like this:

day 1: saltwater mix, power filter, sand, heater

day 14: live rock and damsels

day 21: light protein, skimmer, power-head

    day 35: first coral

  • @TheKleinReef cool man for sure ima take it slow now... i got another quick question... at what piont would it be necessary to add in the water heater if im going to build my nano reef following each step you described in this video? would it be when i add in live sand, live rock, or when i start adding in the coral and fish?... same question for the skimmer

  • @TizocProductions your welcome. all i can say is the slower you start off the more stable its gonna be from the get go. and just be patient. it'll all come together. (:
