John McCain continued hammering Russia on Tuesday [08-12-08] for its invasion of U.S.-allied Georgia, telling a cheering audience that he had spoken again with the tiny Caucasus country's president to assure him of America's moral support.

McCain told a town meeting in Pennsylvania that he had spoken with Mikhail Saakashvili, president of the former Soviet republic, to assure him that "today we are all Georgians."

McCain said Moscow is using "violence against Georgia to send a signal" to "any country that chooses to associate with the West." Russian leaders, he said, must realize they risk "the benefits they enjoy from being part of the civilized world."

On Tuesday, after expressions of outrage in Washington and European capitals, Russian President Dmitry Medvedev ordered a halt to military action and said on national television that his military had inflicted sufficient punishment on Georgia.

  • This is true leadership. NObama should learn from him. McCain doesn't need to travel to other countries and kiss the germans' butts. From here and with a few PRESIDENTIAL words, McCain inspires an entire country in distress. Thank you TheRiteWing (and/or AmericasNewsToday) for posting this video. Thank you very much. John McCain all the way!

  • Georgia is the only european nation that really likes us because they understand how much we help the world.

  • there was no islamic insurgency in south ossetia or abkhazia and GEORGIA DOESN'T FUCKING HAVE OIL WELLS. russia has a shit load more oil, they don't need georgia. russia went in their due to PRO AMERICAN dictator saakhashvili ordered towns and villages of a separatist state to be shelled and invaded. in his own country. ask any south ossetian what georgians did, even georgians hate saakhashvili. you truly are foolish as your name says.

  • The only reason georgia supports Mccain is because their fucking racist

    OBAMA 08

  • The retard got locked up in a war that shouldn't have started and noone wanted to fight. How is he a hero? Moron got caught by what the USA would have called "inferior" troops, he's a war leader. Now he wants to run for president based on that? Maybe if he made it as a colonel or a general it would be a little more impressive. But that = fail. But people will be stupid enough to vote just because of that.

  • Very well said. Its factless news that tells everyone that if they side with russia you are a "commey" or "unpatriotic". So you see all the dolts siding with Georgia

  • "Insane" McCain supports Georgia? Its a lunatic love fest. Saakashvili should be arrested for war crimes and McCain belongs in an assylum.

  • There is an islamic insurgency element to this conflict as well as Russian desire for Georgian oil wells.

  • If for any remote idea that John McCain would win the White House in November 2008, the Russia might be more aggressive in the conflict with Georgia. Unfortunately, McCain does not have anything to offer for this grand nation and the world, except that he would continue making the same mistakes of the previous eight-years-republican administration.
